John Herold, a pioneering Sudbury mining supply entrepreneur, has died at the age of 80. Herold, who was the founder of Herold Supply, died on Sept. 16 in Sudbury. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, Herold moved to Toronto as a child, attending St. Michael’s College, followed by St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia where he earned a bachelor of science degree.

Concerns about a recession and slowing growth in China have been weighing on mining sector stocks this year. But Greg Barnes, Managing Director at TD Securities, tells Greg Bonnell that in the long term the supply and demand dynamic could lead the sector into a new supercycle.

In September 2020, Musk revealed to the market Tesla’s 4680 battery, and at face value, it looked like it would revolutionise the EV world. It promised to slash the cost per kWh by 56%, produce more power than its predecessor, come in a structural pack (increasing the crash safety of the car), be more resilient to supply chain issues, be better for the environment and even charge quicker.

In an article published in the journal ACS Applied Energy Materials, the nanomechanical and morphological changes were investigated in Ni-Al-n LDH (n denotes the molar ratio of Ni/Al) nanosheets by utilizing in situ electrochemical atomic force microscopy during potential cycling.

Most of today’s electric vehicles (EVs) use lithium-ion batteries whose cathodes include nickel, manganese, and cobalt (N, M, and C).
