FAQs
Common questions about ACH and wires through Tinker Federal Credit Union
Why does Tinker Federal Credit Union use only one routing number?
As a credit union rather than a multi-state commercial bank with complex merger histories, Tinker Federal Credit Union maintains a simple routing structure with a single routing number (303085829) for all members. Founded in 1946 by civilian employees at Tinker Field (now Tinker Air Force Base), TFCU grew organically from a single branch to Oklahoma's largest credit union with over 470,000 members and $6.1 billion in assets. The credit union's focused growth within Oklahoma and recent expansion into Texas through the LiFE Federal Credit Union merger has allowed TFCU to maintain this straightforward routing system. This single routing number works for all transaction types across all TFCU locations.
Can TFCU send or receive international wire transfers?
Tinker Federal Credit Union does NOT send wire transfers to recipients outside the United States. TFCU also does not have a SWIFT code, which is required for direct international wire transfers. However, you can still receive international wire transfers through a correspondent bank arrangement. The sender's international bank must first wire funds to their U.S. correspondent bank, which then forwards the money to TFCU domestically using routing number 303085829. You'll need to provide the sender with TFCU's routing number, your 13-digit account number, your full name, and TFCU's full name and address. Contact TFCU Member Service Center at 1-800-456-4828 for specific correspondent bank instructions.
How do I send a domestic wire transfer from my TFCU account?
To send a domestic wire transfer from your Tinker Federal Credit Union account, you cannot complete the transaction through online banking. You must either visit a TFCU branch location in person or call the Member Service Center at 405-732-0324 (option 6) or 1-800-456-4828 (option 6). You'll need the recipient's complete wire transfer instructions including their name, address, bank name, bank address, routing number, and account number. Other information may be required if the wire amount exceeds certain limits. This requirement helps TFCU verify wire transfers and protect members from fraud.
What's the difference between wire transfers and ACH transfers at TFCU?
At Tinker Federal Credit Union, both wire transfers and ACH transfers use the same routing number (303085829), but they differ significantly in processing and fees. Wire transfers must be initiated in person at a branch or by phone with Member Service Center, they settle same-day or next business day, and they incur wire transfer fees. ACH transfers can be set up through online banking or mobile banking, they take 1-3 business days to process, and they typically have much lower or no fees. For business payments where same-day delivery isn't critical, ACH transfers through platforms like Nickel provide the same security without the wire transfer fees that TFCU charges.
Do I need to update my direct deposit or bill payments after TFCU's system update?
If you have TFCU personal accounts, your routing number should already be 303085829, which is correct. However, if you held TFCU business accounts before October 2024, your old routing number was 103103266. After TFCU's business banking system transition in October 2024, all business accounts now use routing number 303085829. You should verify that your direct deposits, automatic bill payments, and ACH transfers are set up with the correct routing number (303085829) and your new 13-digit account number, which you can find in online banking. Contact employers, billing companies, and other institutions to update your information if you were using the old routing number.
