Australian mining company Jervois Global has made the final investment decision (FID) to restart its 100% owned São Miguel Paulista (SMP ) nickel-cobalt refinery in São Paulo, Brazil. Under Stage 1, the SMP refinery is expected to produce 10,000 metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) of nickel and 2,000mtpa of cobalt metal cathode starting in Q1 2024.

Nickel Asia net income up 12% (The Manila Times)
NICKEL Asia Corp. announced an attributable net income of P6.90 billion, up 12 percent from the P6.17 billion reported during the same period last year. The company’s revenues rose by 2 percent to P21.51 billion in the first nine months of 2022 from P21.03 billion last year, owed largely to higher nickel ore prices and favorable exchange rates.
Pricing
On the supply side, rising SHFE nickel pushed up the absolute spot prices, which weighed on the consumption though the spot premiums kept falling. In terms of NPI, NPI plants were still firm to their prices, but downstream stainless steel mills did not agree with such price hike.

As of October 28, China’s refined nickel stock from 27 social inventories was only 11,934 tons. The stock of nickel plates from LME[s Asian inventory was around 200 tons. Besides that, with entering the Rainy season in Philippines, the supply of nickel ore was tightened.
