Meanwhile, lead production was recorded at 41,800 t, down 13.45% q-o-q.

During Q2FY23, raw material prices saw a downward trend, with nickel prices falling by 24 per cent q-o-q and those of ferro-chrome by 18 per cent q-o-q. This impacted the realization and profitability of domestic manufacturers, including the company.

Indonesian resources firm Antam produced less ferro-nickel and nickel ore from a year earlier in the third quarter, while increasing its output of bauxite and alumina. Mt Venn is part of the company’s flagship Yamarna project, which is 130km northeast of Laverton in the eastern goldfields of Western Australia.

The price of gas in Nova Scotia took a jump of just over a nickel a litre overnight. And diesel rose even higher. Shanghai nonferrous metals closed mostly with losses as the SHFE base metals fell in morning trade on the US Fed’s rate hike decision overnight. Shanghai copper lost 0.35%, aluminium gained 1.23%, lead lost 0.07%, zinc fell 0.15%, tin slid 2.14%, and nickel climbed 0.31%.

All base metals prices have gone up strongly, with rumors circulating widely that China was considering an alteration to its zero-Covid policy. Electric vehicles giant Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) considered taking a stake in Glencore (LON: GLEN) and held talks with the miner and commodities trader, the Financial Times reported. Citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter, FT said Tesla discussed buying 10% to 20% of Glencore last year and continued negotiations in March this year

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and Japanese trading house Mitsui & Co. are considering bids for a minority stake in Vale SA’s nickel and copper operations, people with knowledge of the matter said.

GR Engineering Services says it has increased the scope of work related to the engineering, procurement and construction contract with Australian Nickel Investments Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of IGO Limited, for the upgrade of the existing nickel concentrator at the Cosmos nickel operations, in Western Australia.

The Bureau of Customs has ordered its District Inspector in this city to immediately unload about 100,000 metric tons of nickel ore loaded at M/V Lucky Source and M/V De Xin Xing Long and allegedly bound for China.

AS automakers call on the US government to rethink a plan to limit tax credits for electric vehicles (EV), they’re facing opposition from an unexpected source: their own suppliers.

6K Additive, a division of 6K, North Andover, Massachusetts, USA, has announced its intention to significantly increase metal powder production capacity for Additive Manufacturing. This expansion includes adding four new UniMelt microwave plasma systems for powder production, as well as the addition of a new material feedstock preparation building.

However, cobalt and nickel are scarce, expensive and controversial raw elements to mine in part due to the high human costs involved. As such, due to factors ranging from supply chain concerns to cost and efficiency considerations, engineers and companies are now transitioning away from lithium-ion batteries with cobalt and nickel in favor of lithium iron phosphate batteries (LFP).

Another strong quarter for Nickel Industries with a number of records again achieved and a number of significant milestones, including the recognition of Hengjaya Mine’s environmental performance, which I’ll touch on a little bit later on.

Following March’s short squeeze and temporary suspension of LME nickel trade, many participants abandoned the market or reduced their exposure, with the resulting liquidity crisis leading to sudden price swings in the three-month contract often unrelated to fundamentals.

President Muhammadu Buhari will next Tuesday declare open the 6th edition of the Nigeria Mining Week which assembles investors, academia and mining industry professionals across the entire mineral sector value chain at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

In the spot market, on November 4, Jinchuan nickel premiums were quoted at 5,500-6,000 yuan/mt, with an average of 5,750 yuan/mt, up 500 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. As of November 4, the inventory of nickel ore across Chinese ports increased by 543,000 wmt to 9.095 million wmt compared with last Friday. The total Ni content stood at 71,000 mt. The total inventory at seven major ports across China stood at 4.99 million wmt, 263,000 wmt higher than last week.

Metals and mining major Vedanta’s consolidated net sales stood at Rs 36,600 crore, 6% ahead of our estimates of Rs 34,500 crore. The improved sales was driven by higher sales volume, strategic hedging gains, and foreign exchange gains, which was partially offset by lower commodity prices.

A key challenge facing the transition is the lack of available critical minerals to help build green technologies. Newcrest Mining Chief Financial Officer, Sherry Duhe told the opening session of IMARC that critical mineral demand is going to increase by 300% by 2040.

Brazilian miner Vale is mulling potential partnerships for its base metals business, chief executive Eduardo Bartolomeo said on Friday, while reiterating that the unit’s assets are not for sale. Bartolomeo said in a conference call with analysts that a partnership might be a value-unlocking move for the unit. Vale had announced last month a reorganization of its Brazil base metals business, which includes copper and nickel assets.

In this work, we successfully prepared an efficient MXene-Ni0.075Mn0.925O2/CC catalyst for oxygen evolution reaction

The positive effects of metal oxide nanoparticles (NPs) on dark fermentation (DF) for biohydrogen synthesis have been increased, and the mechanism still needs to be further revealed. In this study, nickel-cobalt oxide (NiCo2O4) NPs were prepared to increase H2 yield via DF.

Lithium-oxygen batteries have much attracted attention due to their ultra-high theoretical energy density. However, its practical application is still hampered by many issues, which are mainly attributed to the slow kinetics of oxygen redox reaction/oxygen evolution reaction (ORR/OER) dynamics.

The combination of a polydopamine interface, solvothermal seeding of Pd(OAc)2, and ALD Al2O3 overcoat enables the formation of evenly-coated, ultralow Pd loading Ni foam monolith materials. The robust, easy to handle materials display excellent catalytic reactivity towards the hydrogenation of variably-functionalized nitroaromatics and styrenes at low temperatures and H2 pressure.
