Raiden Resources (RDN) has confirmed broad, near-surface nickel-copper-platinum group element (PGE) sulphide mineralisation at the B2 deposit within its Mt Sholl project in WA. Raiden received assays from the first four out of 39 diamond holes drilled under its maiden drilling program, with the initial holes confirming high-grade sulphide mineralisation at B2.

Drilling is now underway to test multiple electromagnetic conductors at Adavale’s Kabanga Jirani and Luhuma projects in Tanzania which are prospective for nickel sulphides. Initial reverse circulation drilling is being carried out to drill pre-collars for diamond drilling extensions over priority coincident gravity and EM targets within the HEM2 target area of the two projects.

As demand for electric cars continues to grow, so does the need for a mineral critical to its function: nickel, which makes batteries last longer, so cars can go farther. But the United States produces less than 1% of the world’s nickel supply, and American electric vehicle makers rely on supplies from places like Russia, China and Indonesia.

Brazilian mining giant Vale reported a third-quarter net profit of US$4.45 billion on Thursday, a 12.2 percent year-on-year climb. Vale chief executive Eduardo Bartolomeo called the results “solid” since they come amid high worldwide inflation and fluctuating prices for iron ore and nickel.

Anglo American also reported that its nickel production decreased by 4% to 10 kt, primarily due to lower grades, while steelmaking coal production increased by 28% to 5.5 Mt

Still, exploration budgets are on the rise. Planned spending increased 16% year over year to $13.0 billion for 2022, according to an Oct. 18 report by Commodity Insights. Gold budgets climbed 12% to $6.92 billion, while copper budgets rose 21% to $2.80 billion. Budgets for nickel exploration, a major ingredient in batteries, rose 45% to $612 million, and lithium exploration budgets rose 88% to $467 million.

First nickel concentrate has been produced at the Avebury project, in Tasmania, after the successful commissioning of the processing plant. ASX-listed Mallee Resources on Wednesday reported that around 19 200 t of ore was at the run-of-mine stockpile, with a further 2 500 t on the fine ore stockpile.

One day after announcing it will exit the oilsands business by selling its stake in the Fort Hills oilsands project, Teck Resources Ltd. said it continues to face inflationary pressures and production challenges at other sites around the globe.

Bluejay Mining PLC on Tuesday said it hired Robert Edwards as executive chair with immediate effect. The mineral exploration and development company focused on Greenland and Finland said Edwards served as a non-executive director of Moscow-based MMC Norilsk Nickel from 2013 until 2022.

Nickel ore prices remained rangebound last week. Last Friday October 21, the average price of Ni 1.5% ore stood at $71/wmt on a CIF basis, up $0.5/wmt from a week earlier. The mining areas in the south Philippines have gradually entered the rainy season, and the ore supply is decreasing, which offers a strong support to the ore prices.

Eramet reiterated it is also interested in developing other projects in South America’s so-called lithium triangle, which covers parts of Argentina, Bolivia and Chile. It is further looking at opportunities to use its lithium extraction technology for brine in unconventional sites such as geothermal, waters and oilfields, it said.

On Tuesday Wyloo CEO Luca Giacovazzi updated Kitco about his company’s work on the acquisition, Noront Resources’ Eagle’s Nest. Giacovazzi called the project one of the largest undeveloped, high-grade nickel sulphide deposits in the world.

Although imports of spot pure nickel suffered losses this week, a few nickel briquettes that were locked in the price ratio still cleared customs due to factors such as the rigid demand from nickel sulphate producers.

Vale released on Thursday, October 27th, its financial results for the third quarter of 2022. In 3Q22, Vale reported a proforma adjusted EBITDA from continued operations of US$ 4.002 billion, US$ 1.532 billion lower than 2Q22, mainly reflecting the decline in iron ore and nickel prices.
