Manitou Gold Inc. is pleased report assay results for the final drill hole from the Company’s summer diamond drill program in support of the initiative to spin out nickel-cobalt-PGE commodities from the Goudreau project into a newly incorporated subsidiary, Western Nickel Corp.

Western Mines Group has highlighted multiple targets for follow-up diamond drilling from the results of a down-hole electromagnetic survey at its Mulga Tank nickel-copper-platinum group metals project in WA. The company dropped the survey tool down five holes from its recent phase 1 diamond drilling program with a number of moderate to highly conductive off-hole targets identified and now modelled.

Flying Nickel Mining Corp. (TSXV: FLYN) (OTCQB: FLYNF) (“Flying Nickel” or the “Company”) announces diamond drill results from the Company’s 100% owned Minago nickel sulphide project 270km south of Thompson, Manitoba. Six holes totaling 2,718 meters were drilled this past winter. Assays have been received for the first three holes of the program.

Posco has started construction of a high-nickel processing facility in Gwangyang, South Jeolla, in a major effort to secure a stable supply chain in the rapidly growing battery market. The plant will have 20,000 tons of annual capacity, which is enough to be used to make 500,000 electric vehicles (EVs).

Queensland Pacific Metals (QPM) has entered into a binding equity subscription agreement and offtake agreement with General Motors Holdings (GM), kicking off a long-term strategic collaboration. GM has agreed to invest up to $US69 million in equity in QPM, comprised of the initial investment of up to $US25m and final investment decision funding of up to $US44m.

SPC Nickel Corp. (TSXV: SPC) (“SPC Nickel” or the “Company”), is pleased to announce new assay results from the 2022 drill program at the Company’s 100% owned Lockerby East Project (the “Project”) located in Sudbury, Ontario.

Carmaker Stellantis (STLA.MI) has signed a non-binding preliminary agreement with GME Resources (GME.AX) to secure supplies of nickel and cobalt sulphate for electric vehicle (EV) batteries, the two companies said on Monday.

Quebec Nickel Corp announced that it has added a third diamond drill rig to its Ducros project in Quebec to accelerate the current and ongoing 20,000 metre (m) drilling program following its recent drilling success at the Fortin Sill Zone, which included an 8.4m long intersection assaying 1.9% nickel, 1.7% copper, and 3.3 grams per tonne (g/t) of platinum-palladium-gold.

Ardea Resources is poised for a flurry of new exploration with plans to test a suite of open mineralised channels at its Binti prospect and conduct a regional technical assessment at its proximal Emu Lake nickel sulphide target about 70km northeast of Kalgoorlie in WA.

Vale Canada Ltd. unveiled the first phase of its $945-million Copper Cliff Mine Complex South Project on Thursday, predicted to double ore production at the Sudbury, Ontario-based mine. The first phase is expected to add roughly 10,000 tonnes per year of contained nickel and 13,000 tonnes per year of copper.

Future Metals NL (ASX:FME, AIM:FME) is preparing to kick-off a diamond drilling program seeking nickel-copper-platinum group elements (PGE) sulphide accumulations at the 100%-owned Panton PGM-Nickel Project in northern Western Australia.

Gama Explorations Inc. is pleased to introduce the Tyee Nickel Project in Quebec, which was acquired with the closing of the Tyee acquisition on September 20th. The Tyee Project is located in the Havre St. Pierre anorthosite complex (‘HSP Complex’ or the ‘complex’), a newly recognized nickel belt in Quebec. Recent drilling in the complex, 20 km west of the Tyee project, yielded ‘wide intervals of nickel and copper sulphides’.

Lithium, nickel, copper, manganese and graphite are critical elements to battery performance, longevity and energy density. According to the IEA, the inevitable shift to clean energy alternatives will drive a monumental increase in the requirements for these minerals, implying that the energy sector is emerging as a major catalyst for mining operations.

“The new zone of disseminated nickel sulphides announced on Monday is just 300 metres north of NRC309 and, with no drill holes to the west or north, the capacity for new discoveries in this particular area is high,” said MD Brad Underwood.

Sultan Resources (ASX:SLZ) struck 0.86% nickel, 575ppm cobalt and 1.98% chromium in aircore testing earlier this year, confirming an extensive 2.2km of strike of a layered ultramafic sequence. It is no surprise to find hints of nickel and cobalt at Kulin Hill, interpreted to be within the same mobile belt as Chalice Mining’s world class Julimar nickel-copper-PGE discovery.

Sweden-based storage system supplier Nilar International AB has started production of its ReOx reusable batteries, which can be refilled with gas to restore the original battery capacity. The start of manufacturing activities followed an order received from Swedish renewable energy company Enequi.

Business Expansion
Five years after first announcing plans to expand Copper Cliff Mine South, Vale has officially marked the completion of the project’s initial phase. On Wednesday, company officials were joined local politicians, provincial dignitaries, and members of Greater Sudbury’s mining industry to celebrate the opening of Copper Cliff Mine Complex South.

Murchison Minerals Ltd. is pleased to announce results analysed using portable x-ray fluorescence (pXRF) from an additional five diamond drillholes, at the Barre de Fer (“BDF”) Zone, as part of the 2022 Summer Exploration Program on the 100% – owned HPM (Haut-Plateau de la Manicouagan) Project, located in Quebec.

The Kalgoorlie Smelter shutdown starting on October 18 will involve local company Goldfields NDT, owned by Dirk De Beer. After testing equipment for companies in a range of industries for several years, which included fabrication, chemical plants and aviation, Mr De Beer used his redundancy payment to settle in Kalgoorlie-Boulder and realise his dream of owning his own business.

Investment
In its ongoing effort to secure the materials needed to make batteries for electric vehicles, General Motors is investing in a metals operation in Australia. On Tuesday, GM said it will make a strategic investment in Queensland Pacific Metals of Australia to secure a supply of nickel and cobalt, both critical to making EV batteries.

The Stainless Steel Monthly Metals Index (MMI) rose 3.35% from September to October. Last month, nickel prices traded up with a strong rebound during the first three weeks. However, prices soon fell back within range. These declines continued until the opening days of October, with prices mainly remaining consolidated since July.

Voters in Nevada;s capital city will decide next month whether to continue collecting a local diesel tax to aid transportation purposes. In 2020, the Carson City Board of Supervisors acted to approve an ordinance authorizing the collection of a diesel tax. Since then, diesel purchases in the city have included a nickel per-gallon tax.

Nickel prices on the London Metal Exchange temporarily spiked above $24,000/tonne in September on strengthening demand from mainland Chinese buyers and concerns about potential disruptions to Russian nickel supply, according to S&P Global.

As part of efforts to boost the huge mineral deposits in Kaduna State, the state Commissioner for Business Innovation and Technology, Dr Kabir Mato, has said 85 operational licenses were granted to investors. He made this known while delivering his opening remarks at the Business Expo during the 7th Kaduna Investment Summit which kick off at the centenary Park in Kaduna on Thursday.

European copper buyers are going to be paying a lot more to get their metal next year. German producer Aurubis will charge $228 per tonne over the London Metal Exchange (LME) cash price for term deliveries in 2023, a record high and an 85% increase on this year’s premium of $123.

A London court agreed to allow Elliott Investment Management and Jane Street to sue the London Metal Exchange over its handling of a controversial short squeeze in the nickel market in March. The two firms filed in June for a so-called judicial review of the LME’s actions during the nickel crisis

NickelX has received a show of support from new and existing shareholders who backed a $2.05m placement to accelerate drilling at the Cosmos South nickel project. The placement of 13.67 million shares was priced at 15c each with placement participants to receive one option exercisable at 20c and expiring in two years time for every two shares subscribed.

As of October 14, port inventories of nickel ore in China added 321,000 wmt to 7.94 million wmt compared with those before the National Day holiday. The total Ni content stood at 62,000 mt. Inventory across seven major Chinese ports stood at 4.35 million wmt, 141,000 wmt higher than the pre-holiday level.

SMM research showed that the bonded zone inventory of nickel dipped 400 mt to 3,900 mt this week. The inventory of nickel briquette was 1,250 mt, and that of nickel plate was 2,650 mt. Although the RMB exchange rate has depreciated, the imports of spot pure nickel still gained some profits.

Pacific Nickel Mines (PNM) has entered a trading halt while it plans a capital raise. The company has not yet announced how much it plans to raise nor how it will spend the money. The resources business expects to remain in the trading halt until Monday, October 17, by which time it plans to have released the details of the capital raise.

A British court has granted permission for U.S.-based hedge fund Elliot Associates and Jane Street Global Trading to sue the London Metal Exchange (LME) for cancelling nickel trades in March, a court document showed.

London-based investment company focused on the natural resources, life sciences & alcohol sector – Investee company Pacific Nickel Mines Ltd allots 15.6 million shares at an issue price of A$0.08. Says Pacific Nickel shares are for the acquisition of an 80% interest in the Kolosori Nickel Project.

Nickel prices in Asia, spot as well as futures, rose in toda’s trading, in some cases significantly. SHFE nickel futures rose by more than 3% in some cases. On the Chinese spot market, nickel rose by more than 4.3%. And premiums also went up by almost 24%.

Officials with an Australian company’s newly opened cobalt mine in east-central Idaho say it could soon produce enough of the key ingredient in lithium batteries to build 400,000 electric vehicles annually.

Much of the excitement over the Inflation Reduction Act, which became law this summer, focused on the boost it should give to the sales of electric vehicles. Sadly, though, manufacturing and driving tens of millions of individual electric passenger cars won’t get us far enough down the road to ending greenhouse-gas emissions and stanching the overheating of this planet.

South Mine is a first-phase extension of the existing Copper Cliff Mine that will allow the company to access newer ore bodies beneath the community of Copper Cliff in Sudbury’s west end.

RioZim Ltd. has bought Sperrgebiet Diamond Mine in Namibia as the Zimbabwean group seeks to expand in Africa. “The group has been trying to broaden its footprint in the mining industry in Africa and this acquisition was part of the strategy,” Tawanda Andrew Chiurayi, RioZim’s group company secretary, said in a written response to questions from Bloomberg News. “We also want to diversify our assets and geographies.”

Brazilian iron ore exporter Vale could be facing a period of turmoil with a new player muscling its way on to the giant’s share register a move that may prove immensely advantageous to Australian iron ore miners BHP, Rio Tinto and Fortescue Metals.

The Department of Computational Physics and Modeling of Physical Processes continues its inquiries into amorphous compounds. ‘Theoretical, simulation and experimental studies of physical and mechanical features of amorphous systems with inhomogeneous local viscoelastic properties’ is the full title of a grant project headed by Department Chair Anatolii Mokshin and funded by the Russian Science Foundation.

Engineers at the University of Toronto are proposing a new, more sustainable method to mine lithium, cobalt, nickel and manganese from lithium-ion batteries that have reached the end of their lives.

Dundas Minerals Ltd (ASX:DUN) has found further exploration success at its Central target in WA, where assay results have confirmed anomalous pXRF readings for cobalt, copper, nickel and silver. The multi-element explorer has taken the magnifying glass to drill chip samples from two shallow, 37-metre rotary air blast holes drilled in the Albany-Fraser Orogen prospect.

A possible ban on Russian supplies by the London Metal Exchange would be a seismic event for the metals industry, cutting some of the world’s biggest companies off from the main global marketplace. The exchange has yet to make a decision, but on Thursday launched a formal three-week discussion process on the possibility of banning Russian metal, potentially as soon as next month.

Since a nearly broke Sirius Resources made the Nova nickel-copper discovery in July 2012 hundreds of millions have been spent, unsuccessfully, looking for something that suggests the vast expanse of the Fraser Range in the Eastern Goldfields could host a nickel district to rival WA’s Kambalda, Canada’s Voisey’s Bay, China’s Jinchuan and Russia’s Norilsk.

The growing demand for portable devices and electric vehicles led to a sevenfold increase in the cost of lithium-ion cell imports for India, from $180 million to over $1. 2 billion between 2014 and 2020. This will further go up with increasing focus on energy storage capacity unless the country opts for circularity and retrieves valuable materials.

With climate change pushing the U.S. toward more rapid adoption of new technologies, many Republicans and Democrats are in rare agreement on one key point: This country needs a lot more mines. But exactly how much new mining is required for the energy transition isn’t clear.

Rare earth elements extractability from residual waste materials (International Conference on Engineering for Waste and Biomass Valorisation)
It is urgent to create alternatives to virgin ore mining and make digitalization more sustainable by following circular economy principles (Burlakovs et al., 2018). Urban mining is such a practice (Izatt et al., 2014; Tunsu et al., 2015), supporting Circular Economy (C.E.) principles while being more costeffective than market value (Ghisellini et al., 2016).

The catalytic hydrogenation of petroleum resin (PR) to high value-added hydrogenated PR (HPR) represents a forward-looking technology for upgrading the pyrolysis petroleum by-product. Herein, flower-like and pure-phase supported nickel phosphide catalysts were controllably fabricated through a hydrotalcite strategy with red phosphorous as the P source.

Nature exploits transition metal centers to enhance and tune the oxidizing power of natural oxidants such as O2 and H2O2. The design and interrogation of synthetic metallocomplexes with similar reactivity to metalloproteins provides one strategy for gaining insight into the mechanistic underpinnings of oxygen-activating enzymes such as oxidases, oxygenases, and dioxygenases like Ni-quercetinase (Ni-QueD).

The preparation of inexpensive and efficient electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is crucial in the widespread application of water electrolyzers. A simple one-step aqueous electrodeposition method is utilized to prepare amorphous nickel-iron sulfide (NiFe S) and phosphide (Ni Fe P) films on Ni foam.

Rechargeable lithium-oxygen batteries (LOBs) have received incremental attention owing to their high energy density and applicability to mobile devices and electric vehicles. However, the lack of robust, low-cost, and environmentally benign bifunctional catalysts is a major impediment to the commercial application.

The high production and improper disposal of nickel converter slag (NCS) are raising serious concerns about its environmental impact, owing to the waste of resources and the foregone contribution to air, soil and groundwater pollution. This work uncovered that NCS could be reused as a superior catalyst for the treatment of textile dyeing wastewater by the heterogeneous electro-Fenton (hetero-EF) process.

Nitrogen ions were implanted at different energies of 15, 30, 45 and 60 keV and with the flux of 1017 N+cm 2 inside the nickel layers that have been deposited on the 304 stainless steel using the electron gun method at room temperature. XRD patterns showed different crystalline phases of nickel nitride for the implanted samples.

The direct C(sp3) H amidation is a highly desirable but challenging approach to construct C(sp3) N bonds. Herein, we describe a new strategy combining photoredox-mediated hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) and transition-metal catalysis for intermolecular C(sp3)H amidation of unactivated alkanes, ketones, ethers, amines, and aldehydes with dioxazolones.
