Power Nickel Inc (TSX-V:PNPN) told investors it has started a second round of drilling at its Nisk project in the James Bay region of Quebec, which it believes could become Canada’s next nickel mine. The drilling comes after the filing, announced on August 30 this year, of the initial NI 43-101 mineral resource estimate (MRE) for the asset.
Vale Indonesia, the Indonesian operation unit of the Brazil-based mining giant Vale, is set to begin three nickel mining and processing projects in Sulawesi, Indonesia together with Chinese mining company Huayou and US-based Ford Motor, according to multiple media outlets.

The Ipilan Nickel Corp. (INC), a subsidiary of the country’s second-largest nickel producer, is targeting to export around 500,000 wet metric tons (WMT) of nickel ore this year. Global Ferronickel Holdings Inc. (FNI) said INC completed its maiden shipment of nickel ore on September 20 from its mine site in Brooke’s Point, Palawan.
The Philippines second-biggest nickel ore exporter, Global Ferronickel Holdings Inc, said on Tuesday its affiliate Ipilan Nickel Corp has completed a maiden shipment of 54,700 wet metric tonnes (WMT) of medium-grade ore to China.

In the immediate aftermath of the LME intervention, the Shanghai Futures Exchange (ShFE) was forced to suspend its nickel contract for two days and has arguably suffered even greater damage.

The Government and two Chinese investors – Eagle Canyon International Group Limited and Pacific Goal Investment – yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding that immediately paves the way for the construction of a US$13 billion mine to energy industrial park in Mashonaland West Province.
U.S. Rep. Pete Stauber (R) has introduced legislation that would streamline permitting for mining projects, including those in northeastern Minnesota. Earlier this week, Stauber introduced his Permitting for Mining Needs (PERMIT-MN) Act.

Scorching gains for lithium, a raw material vital for powering electric vehicles, threaten to push costs even higher for Chinese battery makers, and the government is finding itself powerless to do anything about it.
Following a successful initial consultation on a proposed price launch, Fastmarkets will be progressing with this initiative and invites feedback on the specifications of a price. Mixed hydroxide precipitate (MHP) is an intermediate nickel product produced from laterite nickel ore, which contains both nickel and a small percentage of cobalt.
The planned update consists of a number of steps, including a proposal to consolidate the price assessments for nickel scrap in the United States. Fastmarkets would publish a single delivered processor price range for each grade in the United States, rather than a price range for individual cities for the broker/processor buying prices.
Gas prices in Michigan are down 4 cents from a week ago. AAA Michigan says drivers are now paying an average of $3.81 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 13 cents less than this time last month but still 65 cents more than this time last year.

To get the United States running on clean energy will require a lot of metal: A single electric vehicle battery pack could contain around 8 kilograms of lithium, 14 kilograms of cobalt, and 35 kilograms of nickel. A wind turbine can contain more than 4 tons of copper.
