Vale SA raised its nickel output guidance as one of the top miners of the battery metal looks past recent operational setbacks to projects aimed at tapping growing demand. Ore prices fluctuated with occasional drops last week in the sluggish market. Last Friday, the SMM average price of Ni 1.5% ore stood at $67.5/wmt on a CIF basis, down $1/wmt from a week earlier. On the demand side, the NPI and stainless steel markets were slack.
According to SMM research, the bonded zone inventory stood at 6,400 mt this week. The inventory of nickel briquette was 2,150 mt, and that of nickel plate was 4,250 mt. Inventory of nickel briquettes and nickel plates both decreased slightly because the steel mills will probably resume the production in September.
